The Commercial Appeal reports the FBI arrest of Mahmoud Maawad, a 29-year-old Egyptian student studying at the University of Memphis.
Maawad has been jailed “on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.”
In addition, authorities say Maawad…
* has been living in the country illegally since 1999
* was working illegally and being paid under the table
* was found to be in possession of an airline pilot’s uniform, a chart of Memphis International Airport, and instructional DVDs, including one called “How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act.”
But here’s the kicker: Maawad “was arrested by Shelby County sheriff’s deputies last spring for selling alcohol to a minor.”
Why wasn’t he investigated by the feds and locked up at that point?
